Global Read Webinar Series #2 - Middle East Outreach Council - Shared screen with speaker view
You did such a great job teaching us about Persian culture. Was that one of your goals as you wrote the book? I love the explanations and feel much better informed!
Adib, thank you for your book and your time tonight. I am a middle school teacher thinking about possibly teaching this book in either 7th or 8th grades. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet (my department chair has a copy, but did not give it to me before our school was closed). Do you feel the book is appropriate for these grades?
I also love the universality of the story. The friendship between the boys is so authentic, and the issues Darius faces are issues my students from Mexico and Central America face at times.
I’m interested in the idea of the cultural iceberg. Do you have a recommendation for reading more about this idea?
Kara - there are so many great graphics about this concept. Check out a quick Google images search: https://www.google.com/search?q=culture+as+iceberg&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS887US887&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwizwOSNl6XoAhXqkOAKHQzHDmUQ_AUoAXoECA4QAw&biw=1600&bih=789#imgrc=xUJi4MLOA41n4M
Could you talk a little more about your relationship with your editor?
Was the book accepted right away?
To further explain my above question - was the manuscript bought- yes
And congratulations to Adib for winning the Youth fiction MEOC book award.
